I found this great trunk from a little store in the Mission district called Viracocha.  The merchant told me it was an early 20th century piece.  It has an impressively sturdy wooden frame (possibly pine) with worn leather straps, detailed metal brackets at the corners, and amazing embossed orange tin strips down all the sides.  I can't tell what the actual trunk is covered with, but historically canvas was used and it has a similar texture to the touch so I'm going with that.  This particular kind of steamer trunk was used when people took long trips and needed to pack a lot of clothing and personal items.   I knew the perfect place for it...

It now it graces my apartment as a media center.  Love it and the storage is a bonus!
